OPUS comes 1st in Morpeth 2 Newcastle 26 mile Cycle race

OPUS competed in the Morpeth 2 Newcastle Cycle race on Sunday 30th October– sponsored by Muckle

Impromptu banter started the entries and the build up to  the race continued with hours of interval training and long miles in preparation. The morning and build-up to the race where five OPUS office staff members and friends of OPUS competed for the big prize targeting a race win. The day started early with a 7.30 meeting at the county hall, followed by a three mile warm up cycle to the start line. Hopes and spirits were high with early a faller at zero MPH (NO Names)! Just make sure next time you are cleated in be sure to be moving.... so the race starts with approximately 100 competitors at 8:20, Gavin and Co push hard at the front, with Marc Brown in pursuit followed by Mick Hellens, Steve Batey and Tony Fraser chasing hard. Marc had multiple technical problems however let down by the technical mobile support crew Johnny Christie failing who apparently was more interested in breakfast sandwiches. Minor detours occurred during the race with the team battling on to the finish line with the four top places being taken by OPUS and CO, and strong finishing by the rest of the team. Eventually Johnny turns up full of bacon sandwich and copious amounts of tea phoning Gavin and saying is that you at the finish line! Yep the boys beat the technical support to the finish line as well. The day finished of with some happy beers and warmed up legs the threats of doing the ride in reverse to get a faster time, and time for yet another beer. A great end to a fantastic day for all involved!

OPUS & Co Competitors:  Gavin Richardson, Steve Batey, Tony Fraser,  Mick Hellens, Marc Brown, Gavin Thompson, David Wallace, Michael Wallace, Tom Whelan (North East 2016 Triathlon champion),  & Technical support and bacon master Mr Johnny Christie.
